Jason Deutsch
I’m Jason Deutsch, a principal software engineer specializing in distributed systems and AI infrastructure. At Upwork, I’m a Staff Software Engineer and technical lead for the AI Platform, responsible for its technical direction and roadmap. My work focuses on agentic systems, scalability, and enterprise AI governance. I also investigate software factory architectures, exploring how agents, orchestration, and verification can support reliable software delivery.
Over my career, I’ve had the chance to work on some fascinating challenges, from Magic Leap’s early work in augmented reality and cloud platforms at IBM, to building and leading an early-stage engineering team at Bigfoot. My academic foundation includes graduate studies in Software Systems at Columbia University.
Outside of my day-to-day engineering work, I write about the practical side of our field: how to build reliable software, how we can use AI thoughtfully, and how to help engineering teams do good work together.
